Former Aston Villa man believes Martin Olsson would be a ‘great signing’ for West Brom

Former Aston Villa man Alan Hutton has claimed that Martin Olsson would be a ‘great signing’ for West Bromwich Albion according to Football Insider.

Hutton was full of praise for the Swedish international and said he was a tough player to come up against and may be an ideal fit for the Baggies.

It has been confirmed that the Midlands side have bought in Olsson on a trial basis to assess his fitness due to injury problems in recent times.

Olsson is currently a free agent following his departure from Swansea City in the summer but has endured a long spell on the sidelines and has had no competitive action since December 2018.

Hutton gave his views on the former Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers defender regarding whether he would be a good signing for the Baggies and said: “Yeah, I think so. I think he’s always been a good player. He’s very athletic, quick, good going forward and he can defend.”

“It seems like he’s been around the block a bit, been at a few clubs he’s done really well. He’s a great professional and has done well through his career so I’m sure he can do a job.”

Despite his recent lack of game time, Olsson does come with a wealth of experience. He has over 100 appearances in the second tier of English football and nearly 200 Premier League outings under his belt from his time with Norwich and Blackburn.

With recent injury niggles to Kieran Gibbs, an experienced veteran like Olsson being bought into their defence could be just what West Brom need in that position.
