Ipswich Town have confirmed on their official club website that defender Josh Earl has signed on loan for the rest of the season, joining on a temporary basis from Championship side Preston North End.

Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert has moved to bolster his defensive ranks in the January transfer window, signing Preston North End defender Josh Earl on loan for the rest of the season. Earl has spent the first half of the season playing in League One with Bolton Wanderers and now, he will remain in the third-tier until the end of the season, signing a new loan deal with Ipswich.

Earl, 21, can play at either left-back or centre-back and will be hoping to have a positive impact at Portman Road as they look to return to the Championship at the first time of asking. Speaking to the club’s official website upon the announcement, Earl said that he is happy to have made the move to Portman Road and is keen to help them achieve automatic promotion from League One. He said:

“The move came around quite quickly, I got told on the Friday that I was possibly moving down to Ipswich on Sunday and I’m here now and can’t wait to get started.

“I watched the game back and the lads played really well on Saturday, so hopefully we can carry that form into tomorrow’s match at Oxford. I feel as though it’s a great squad and the only aim for everyone this season is to push for the top two.”

Earl is a product of the Preston North End academy and after making his way through the Lilywhites youth ranks, he has gone on to play 36 times for the club’s senior team, providing one assist in the process.
