Bristol City, Swansea City and Wigan Athletic to battle for Motherwell defender Declan Gallagher

According to a report from the Daily Record, Championship trio Bristol City, Swansea City and Wigan Athletic are all interested in Scottish international centre-back Declan Gallagher, who plays for Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell.

Motherwell signed Scottish defender Declan Gallagher from Livingston in the summer transfer window, and since arriving at Fir Park he has been a big hit. The 28-year-old’s performances for Stephen Robinson’s side caught the attention of the Scottish National Team, who have since given him his debut.

And now, it has been reported that the Scottish National Team are not the only ones to take note of Gallagher’s strong performances. According to a report from the Daily Record, Championship trio Bristol City, Swansea City and Wigan Athletic are all interested in signing the centre-back this January.

Fellow Championship side Charlton Athletic and League One promotion hopefuls Peterborough United are also said to have scouted Gallagher during the first half of the season.

Motherwell are understandably keen to keep Gallagher on board in the January transfer window as they look to maintain their fight for a Europa League spot throughout the rest of the season. However, the club is said to value Gallagher at £500,000, a reasonable price for Championship clubs given the large fees circulating so far this month.

Gallagher has played in 25 matches for Motherwell across all competitions so far this season, helping them into 3rd place so far. In the process, he has scored two goals and providing three assists.

It will be interesting to see if any of the clubs said keen on Gallagher look to make a move to tempt him south of the border this January, or if Motherwell boss Robinson can keep a hold of the defender.
