Millwall were given a shock to the system when Ben Pringle tapped in the only goal of the game.

The Lions were looked the better side going into their game with Rotherham, having managed to conjure up a late equaliser at Hillsborough on Tuesday, Millwall had set out to keep momentum going on Saturday, but weren’t didn’t hit the target on enough occasions. Rotherham, on the other hand, were looking to find some form after being beaten 2-0 by Watford in their midweek game. The Lions started off well in the first half, attacking the Rotherham box, but with no end product, were unable to score. They couldn’t keep their assult on The Millers going and Rotherham thought back after a tactical switch from Steve Evans. The Rotherham manager swapped his two wingers and Carlos Edwards and Scott Malone couldn’t keep them at bay. Alex Revell flicked on Paul Taylors low cross and found Ben Pringle unmarked at the back post, to put Rotherham 1-0 up. The winger later picked up the ball in the centre of the Millwall half and fired a shot at David Forde, who made a fine save to keep the score at 1-0. The 49th-minute strike ended Millwall’s 13-game-unbeaten run, that had stretched from March last season.

Both teams in a 4-2-3-1 formation

David Forde: Didn’t have much to do in the first half, tested a few times and made a fine save from a cannon of a shot from Ben Pringle. Couldn’t do anything about the goal. 7.0
Carlos Edwards: Had a good first half, but struggled in the second. Could have stopped the initial cross for the goal, an average performance from the 35-year-old. 6.0
Alan Dunne: The centre-back wasn’t at his best in the heart of defence today, looked slow off the mark and struggled with the likes of Alex Revell. Made some bad clearances that put Millwall in trouble at some points in the game. 5.5
Mark Beevers: Played well, Pringle and Taylor got the better of him sometimes, but a generally solid performance from him. 6.5
Scott Malone: Making some good runs down the line in the first half, helping out Lee Martin on the wing and was a massive help in creating chances for Millwall. Struggled when Rotherham switched their wingers in the second half. 6.5
Josh Wright: Played awful. Didn’t complete a pass all the time he was on, gave away the ball numerous times and offered nothing going forward or defensively. 3.0
Shaun Williams: Good game for him. Sprayed balls all over the park, didn’t lose the ball much and played well defensively. 7.0
Martin Woolford: Created lots of chances for Millwall, ran at Rotherham and caused trouble as always. Solid performance from him. 8.0
Scott McDonald: Looked very fatigued. Played every single minute of all of Millwalll’s games so far. Nippy in midfield, had a few tame efforts, but overall still looked a pretty good player. 7.5
Lee Martin: Committing to every challenge, chasing the ball down. Provided the spark for Millwall at certain times in the game. 7.0
Ricardo Fuller: Didn’t play well, won nothing in the air, missed an easy chance at the front post. Wasn’t given the opportunity to run with the ball at his feet. 5.0

Rotherham United

Adam Collin: Only had to make one save all game. Made himself known during corners and set-play. 7.0
Kirk Broadfoot: Solid play in defence, made five clearances. But looked a bit weak sometimes. 6.0
Craig Morgan: Very good at centre-back. Made 10 clearances and didn’t allow Fuller to get himself on the ball. 7.5
Karl Arnason: Played his part well, blocked a Millwall shot and also cleared the ball many times. Solid performance. 7.5
Joe Skarz: Taken off late in the game. Didn’t let Millwall get in on his side of the field. Part off a well organised Rotherham defence. 7.0
Richie Smallwood: Defended his back four well. But wasn’t really involved in the game much. 6.0
Lee Frecklington: Very involved in the game, took a few shots and put the ball into the box a couple of times. 7.5
Ben Pringle: Scored the only goal of the game. Tested Forde numerous times. Troubled the Millwall defenders and was definitely the best player on the pitch. 8.5
Anthony Wordsworth: Had a couple of shots against Forde. Didn’t seem to add a lot to a strong Rotherham side. 5.5
Paul Taylor: Made initial ball for the goal. Troubled the Millwall defence along with Pringle. Good performance. 8.0
Alex Revell: Held the ball up well. Flicked the ball on for the goal. Was a handful for the Millwall defence and caused problems. Missed an open goal in the first half. 7.5
