Luton Town set sights on Bristol City defender Bailey Wright

Luton Town have made an approach to sign Bristol City defender Bailey Wright, according to a report by Football Insider.

The Championship’s bottom club are looking to hand the 27 year old an escape route from Ashton Gate this month.

Wright, who is an Australia international with 24 caps to his name, has fallen down the pecking order with the Robins and they could cash in on him in this transfer window with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

The centre-back has made just three appearances so far this term and his career with Lee Johnson’s side appears to be over. Luton are in the hunt for defensive reinforcements to avoid dropping into League One and Wright could fit the bill for them due to his experience in the Championship.

Wright moved to England in 2009 to join Preston North End and went on to become a key player for the Lancashire side. He made 2005 appearances for the Lilywhites in his seven years at Deepdale, helping them win promotion to the second tier via the Play-Offs in 2015.

Bristol City swooped to sign him in January 2017 and he has played in the second tier for them since.

There are believed to be other clubs interested in him as well as Luton this month but the Hatters have given the Robins something to think about with their approach. Wright may well be offloaded by Johnson over the coming weeks to avoid losing him for nothing in June.
