Derby County and Blackburn Rovers target George Tanner could be recalled by Manchester United amid transfer speculation

Speaking to The Visitor, Morecambe manager Derek Adams has said Manchester United might recall defender George Tanner from his loan spell with the Shrimps this January, amid claims that he is on the radar of Championship sides Derby County and Blackburn Rovers.

Towards the end of last week, the Manchester Evening News reported that Manchester United’s loan out defender George Tanner was wanted by a host of clubs including Championship pair Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, with Portsmouth, Salford City and New York Red Bulls also said keen on the youngster.

Tanner is currently on loan in League Two with Morecambe and his contract with parent club Manchester United expires at the end of the season, leading to speculation that he could be recalled from his spell with Morecambe and sold on a permanent basis this January, rather than leave United on a free transfer in the summer.

And now, speaking to The Visitor, Morecambe boss Derek Adams has confirmed that Manchester United have the option to recall Tanner from his loan spell, admitting that they “might do” just that. He said:

“George has a recall in his contract, so they (United) can do that in January – which they might do. We’ve obviously got him on a season-long loan in that respect, so that’s the situation.”

Tanner has been in impressive form for Morecambe since signing on loan in the summer transfer window. Across all competitions, he has played a total 27 times across all competitions.

With Derby County and Blackburn Rovers among the sides said keen, it awaits to be seen if Manchester United will allow Tanner to see out his loan spell with Morecambe or if they opt to recall him before the end of the month.
