Salford City nearing capture of Fleetwood Town forward

According to a report from Football Insider, Fleetwood Town’s out of favour forward Ashley Hunter is set to join League Two side Salford City on loan until the end of the season, with talks said to be at an advanced stage.

Salford City are closing in on a deal to sign Fleetwood Town forward Ashley Hunter on loan for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign, as Graham Alexander looks to bolster his squad for the second half of the League Two season.

Hunter has found his game time with Fleetwood Town limited so far this season and Cod Army boss Joey Barton is willing to let him leave on loan. The forward has made 18 appearances in all competitions but only started four matches, with one of those coming in the league. Hunter has scored one goal and provided two assists in the process but has not been involved in Fleetwood’s last five league games.

The likes of Josh Morris, Wes Burns and Paddy Madden have all been preferred by Joey Barton so far this season, dislodging Hunter who has been a regular with Fleetwood Town prior to this season. The 24-year-old joined from Ilkeston in January 2015 and has knocked up a total of 215 appearances for Fleetwood, scoring 38 goals and providing 28 assists in the process.

As a player who can play on either the left or right-wing as well as through the middle, Hunter will be a good signing for Salford City, who sit six points away from the top seven heading into the new year.
