Crewe Alexandra

PREVIEW: Crewe Alexandra v Scunthorpe United

Promotion-chasing Crewe Alexandra will be hoping to quickly erase memories of their Boxing Day defeat at Salford City when Scunthorpe United are the visitors to Gresty Road this afternoon.

The Railwaymen lost 3-1 against The Ammies leaving them with only a slender advantage in the race for automatic promotion.

Crewe Alexandra will be without midfielder Eddie Nolan for the clash against The Iron with the player currently battling a back injury. Midfielder Paul Green will be assessed ahead of the the match after missing the fixture against Salford City with illness. Veteran forward Chris Porter is again a doubt as he continues to recover from a hamstring problem.

Scunthorpe United make the trip to Gresty Road without defenders Yann Songo’o and Kgosi Ntlhe through injury while Jordan Clarke and Regan Slater also remain sidelined. Sheffield United loanee Jake Eastwood could return in goal with the player having recovered from a groin injury while Matthew Lund may also travel if he has overcome recent illness.

Crewe Alexandra lost last season’s meeting with Scunthorpe United at Gresty Road 3-2 despite leading the match through Ollie Turton’s 15th-minute goal. The two sides have not yet met in Sky Bet League Two this season.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 3pm with admission available on the day for all supporters.
