Shrewsbury Town launch bid for Rangers midfielder

Shrewsbury Town have made a bid for Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty.

The League One side want to bring the 23-year-old back to New Meadow in the upcoming January transfer window, according to a report by Football Insider.

Docherty, who is a former Scotland Under-21 international, spent the whole of last season on loan with the Shrews and became a real hit with them. He made 50 appearances in all competitions and chipped in with 10 goals.

Rangers are open to offloading him next month with him only playing five times for Steven Gerrard’s side this term.

Docherty joined the Glasgow giants in January 2018 from Hamilton Academical on a four-year contract but has played 18 times since making the switch to Ibrox.

He started his career at Hamilton and rose up through their youth ranks before breaking into their senior side. He helped them gain promotion from the Scottish Championship in 2013 and retain in the top flight the following seasons, making 108 appearances for them before leaving.

Docherty has fallen out-of-favour at Ibrox, hence why they loaned him out last season. Gerrard has a big decision on his hands whether to sell him permanently or loan him out again in January.

Shrewsbury are currently 11th in the third tier and are three points of the Play-Offs after a solid start to the season. Can Sam Ricketts bring Docherty back this winter to boost their promotion hopes?
