Leeds United could make move for previously linked German midfielder who could leave current club in January

Leeds United were linked with a £7million move for German midfielder Elvis Rexhbecaj in the summer transfer market and it has now been reported that he could leave Wolfsburg in January.

As reported by German newspaper Bild, Rexhbecaj could be set to leave due to a lack of match action this season and there are a host of clubs interested in his services.

The 22-year-old has made just two appearances so far this season and started in the Europa League for the German giants.

Hannover 96 and KRC Genk are believed to be two of the clubs monitoring Rexhbecaj however this news could also put Leeds United on alert.

Premier League side Norwich City were also believed to have an interest in the midfielder and with the Canaries struggling in the top flight they could also pursue a move for the youngster.

Rexhbecaj is of Kosovo and Albanian descent and has a contract at Wolfsburg until the summer of 2023. The midfielder could prove to be a fantastic replacement for Kalvin Phillips who is by no means guaranteed to stay beyond this season, especially if the Whites fail to gain promotion to the Premier League.

Phillips is one of the star names to have signed a new deal with the Yorkshire giants however there is bound to be speculation regarding his future in the summer and Rexhbecaj could be a great addition at a knockdown price.

However, with plenty of competition for his signature, this is sure to be a difficult acquisition for Leeds.
