Nottingham Forest boss’ shame after Sheffield Wednesday rout

“Ashamed” Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi has hit out at his players as they fell out of the top six following a 4-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

A Jordan Rhodes hat-trick and a goal from Steven Fletcher secure an emphatic win within the first 45 minutes in what proved to be Lamouchi’s worst defeat as Forest manager.

Home fans walked out of the City Ground at half-time with the result lifting the Owls above Forest and into the play-off places.

Lamouchi’s side meanwhile dropped to eighth and he apologised to the fans for the big loss.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “I’m the only one responsible for that. It is a big disappointment for me and for the players, for all the fans.

“It’s been a bad week. Not just a bad day, a bad week. We have to learn.

We gave them a lot, but congratulations to Sheffield Wednesday because they played with quality, with experience and played in the right way.

“It was wrong. I didn’t make any changes (to personnel during the game) because three (substitutions) would not be enough.

“The second half was different, but it is easy for the opponent to manage when we are 4-0 down.

“But it was not enough – 4-0 at home without any yellow cards, without any energy, any intensity. We were so wrong.

”I am very surprised; I am shocked and I have shame in this performance.

“I am the manager of Forest and I am the only one to take responsibility for this big loss.

”The players miss, but the first miss comes from the manager.

“You can’t give easy goals like that.

“The Championship is a tough league. Every game is difficult, especially against Sheffield Wednesday.

“I know that. Everybody knows that.

“It is not an excuse. It was a wrong day. It’s a shame. I’m not afraid of using those words.

“It is my first time apologising to our Forest fans and I hope it will be the last time.”
