Leeds United boss beats tough competition to win Championship accolade

The EFL have confirmed on their official website that Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has won the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for November, beating tough opposition to the accolade.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has been named as the Sky Bet Championship’s Manager of the Month for November, it has been confirmed today (Friday). Bielsa beat some tough opposition to the accolade, with West Brom manager Slaven Bilic, Fulham’s Scott Parker and Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray all nominated for the award.

But, it was El Loco who came out on top. Bielsa successfully guided Leeds United to five wins from a possible five, maintaining a perfect record throughout November. Along the way, they faced some tough tasks but came out on top in all of their games, defeating Queens Park Rangers, Blackburn Rovers, Luton Town and Reading, closing out the month with a comfortable 4-0 win over Middlesbrough as they continue to push for a return to the Premier League.

Now, Bielsa has been speaking to the EFL about winning the award, insisting that it is an award that provides recognition for the entire team and not just the manager. He said:

“To recognise the manager is one way to recognise everybody who is helping the team and more than help, having some impact and influence on the team, but of course, what’s more important is the input of the players.

“We know that every team has different periods in the competition when you are better and worse, but it’s no coincidence [the award] comes at the moment of the competition when Leeds have a high impact.”
