Leeds United given boost by legendary Scotland striker.

Leeds United currently sit atop the Championship table in their pursuit of Premier League football for next season, they have an eleven point gap between themselves and third spot and have only conceded ten goals in twenty one league matches… not to mention a tide twelve clean sheets in there for good measure.

But they were in a similar position to this last season and things started to turn for them at around this stage, so do they have the minerals to put last seasons demons to bed and continue their excellent form?

Last season the Whites ended the season in third position and totally deflated as they fell to Derby County in the play-off semi-finals, so the pain of that capitulation could well be the driving force behind the Elland Road clubs march to the top again this season.

If they were to achieve their goal of reaching the Premier League, would they sustain themselves as a top-flight club or would it be more difficult than one would expect?

Well, this morning, on TalkSPORT, Rangers and Scotland legend Ali McCoist had his say on both Leeds United’s prospects this season and their expectations for next, should they get the job done this time around…

“Yes (Leeds are coming up), I really hope they do come up – I like them.”

“The Premier League is a tricky division to navigate for a newly-promoted side – just ask Fulham, Norwich City and Villa fans.”

“Fulham spent big bucks last year and came straight back down while Norwich have yo-yo’d between the Championship and top tier.

When asked how they would fare in the top flight…

“It’s difficult, isn’t it?!”

“Yesterday, I was looking at that (Premier League) table, I am enjoying watching Aston Villa and they are only one place above the relegation zone.”

“So to answer your question, I just think that they have a great fan base, Leeds, hey have been out of the top-flight for too long.”

“Can they come up and stay up? I think they will come up. But I don’t know (if they can stay up).”

How do the Leeds United fans feel about McCoist’s comments?
