Charlton Athletic tried to sign Hull City striker in the summer

Charlton Athletic tried to sign Hull City striker Tom Eaves over the summer.

The forward was a free agent after his contract at Gillingham expired and was a target for the Addicks, as per a report by London News Online.

A move to the Valley never materialised for the 6ft 5inc talisman and he ended up moving to the Tigers on a three-year deal.

Eaves, who is from Liverpool, has scored three goals for Grant McCann’s side so far this season.

Charlton take on Hull tomorrow night and their boss Lee Bowyer has admitted his interest in Eaves over the summer, as per London News Online: “We were interested in him but weren’t allowed to bring him in. We spoke with him, but we weren’t allowed.”

“Their front (Hull’s) three are good. Their two wingers [Grosicki and Bowen] are the biggest threats and they’ve got big Eaves doing well. Okay, he doesn’t score many goals but he does a lot for the team. They get around him – he’s a big targetman who causes problems. They’ve got players who can hurt you and are established Championship players.”

Eaves scored 22 goals in all competitions for the Gills last season which earned him his move to the KCOM Stadium and he will be eager to get more goals for Hull this term.
