Derby County, Stoke City and Middlesbrough target set to be offered a new deal by Aberdeen

Derby County, Stoke City and Middlesbrough target Sam Cosgrove is set to be offered a new deal by Aberdeen according to the Aberdeen Evening Express.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has stated that he is ‘keen’ to offer Cosgrove a new contract following recent speculation regarding his future.

The striker, who has netted 18 goals so far this season, is contracted to the SPL side until the summer of 2022 but McInnes wants him to be rewarded with a new deal.

“We would like to extend Sam’s contract. Whether we can do it or not remains to be seen. But we’re hopeful that we can extend it,” McInnes said.

There has been mounting rumours of transfer interest from a whole host of English sides including Derby, Stoke and Middlesbrough and Aberdeen are looking to ward off potential suitors and tie down the striker to a longer-term deal.

Cosgrove finished last season with 21 goals and has already scored 18 times in just 24 matches this time around.

Last week the former Carlisle United forward was watched by Middlesbrough assistant manager Robbie Keane in Aberdeen’s 2-2 draw with Rangers at Pittodrie.

The 23-year-old has set himself a target of 30 goals which he is well on course to achieve and this kind of form has alerted sides in the EFL as they look to make reinforcements to their squads during the January transfer window.

Aberdeen have been able to tie down a number of younger players to long-term, lucrative contracts and they will be hoping they can do the same with their star striker.
