Former West Brom midfielder heaps praise on majestic Brazilian

Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Nigel Quashie has heaped praise on the Baggies’ Brazilian maestro Matheus Pereira and his sensational performances this season.

In an interview with Football League World, Quashie said that Pereira has been outstanding and has raved about his displays with the ball at his feet and without it.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to go up there and watch them every week and one thing I will say is, what a player. Not just being a creative number 10, but his work ethic, his attitude, his determination, his desire. These are things you can’t teach as a coach.”

“He’s obviously come in from a European club where the football is a bit slower, but he’s come in and landed on his feet straight away. He’s contributed to the team with and without the ball.”

“It has been a pleasure to sit there and see someone like that come in and really stamp his authority on the team and the league. I wouldn’t be far off from saying that he’s one of the best attacking players I’ve seen at West Brom in a long, long time.”

West Brom are currently second in the Championship table having been usurped by Leeds United on Tuesday evening as the Whites recorded their seventh successive win, this time with a 2-0 victory over Hull City.

The Baggies are well on course for automatic promotion and Pereira has been an integral part of the team since his summer loan move from Sporting Lisbon.

The 23-year-old has scored five goals and registered ten assists in a quite magnificent campaign thus far with Albion supporters claiming he is one of the best loan signings the club has made in recent years.

Grady Diangana and Matt Phillips have also been influential attacking players but it is Pereira who has stole the limelight with a series of impressive performances.
