Hull City boss hails Tom Eaves’ “best performance” against Leeds United last night

Hull City boss Grant McCann has said last night was Tom Eaves’ best performance of the season against Leeds United.

The summer recruit from Gillingham lead the line for the Tigers and impressed his manager.

Hull lost 2-0 to promotion chasing Leeds after an own goal by Jordy de Wijs and a controversial Ezgjan Alioski strike after Patrick Bamford appeared to foul George Long moments before.

McCann spoke to the Tigers’ official club website after the game: “I can take a lot of positives out of tonight in terms of the way we played. I thought it was Tom Eaves’ best performance in a Hull City shirt – he led the line terrifically for us – but at the end of the day we’ve come away with zero points.”

“We felt as though we were a real threat every time we went forward. We’re disappointed that we didn’t take some of the chances that we created because we’ve been quite clinical on that front this season. We’ve conceded from what was probably their first effort on target and it’s come from one of our own players for an own goal, which is unfortunate.”

He added: “We then thought we’d equalised through Tom’s header but it was a great save. We’ve switched off for 20 seconds after that and the ball is in our net. It’s a little frustrating that the referee hasn’t seen the foul on our goalkeeper leading up to that second goal. We won’t dwell on the result. We’ve got another game coming up at Charlton in less than 72 hours, so we’ll prepare for that and look to respond.”
