The game looked to be heading for a stalemate until substitute Matty Daly came off the bench to score a dramatic winner in stoppage time.
According to FourFourTwo, the Huddersfield squad nearly didn’t make it to The Valley after the team bus got stuck in the Blackwall Tunnel following an earlier crash.
The match was delayed by 15 minutes but the mishap did not unsettle the Terriers who went on to grab all three points in a fairly lacklustre game in the capital.
Speaking to the Huddersfield Town official website after the game, boss Cowley said: “It’s been a difficult couple of weeks.
“Pretty much everything that could have gone against us has, and then to be stuck in the Blackwall Tunnel for an hour not moving, that pretty much summed up everything that had come before.
“We said in the changing room before it doesn’t matter what they throw at us we’re going to stick together and fight really hard, and the more things that go against us the deeper we’re going to dig.
“I was proud of the effort of the players tonight, really really proud.”
Huddersfield will be hoping to make it two wins on the bounce when they face struggling Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Saturday, whereas the Addicks will be hoping to bounce back against promotion-chasing Leeds United.
