Arsenal make approach for former Swansea City and QPR manager

Premier League side Arsenal have made an approach to French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux for their manager Paulo Sousa, who will be well known to fans of Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City.

Sousa has had spells in England before, managing both QPR and Swansea City for short spells.

He was appointed as manager of QPR back in November 2008, but was sacked just six months later after the club claimed that he “divulged sensitive information without permission from the hierarchy.”

Just two months later, the Portuguese manager took charge of Swansea City, and helped guide them to seventh place in the Sky Bet Championship, which at the time was their highest league finish for 27 years.

He left the club after just one season to take charge of Sky Bet Championship rivals Leicester City.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have made contact with the entourage of Paulo Sousa, who is currently in charge of French club Bordeaux.

They have told French media outlet L’Equipe: “They like his profile, not just as a coach but also as a person. This does not mean that he will leave. ”

“They are in talks with multiple candidates but Paulo is part of that list, certainly. Between the two, it could work, but with all the problems currently ongoing at Bordeaux, why wouldn’t he leave? The project is not what was promised to him, that is a fact. He loves the fans but he needs more from the board, the team is not strong enough to finish in the top six.”
