Middlesbrough are at risk of losing seven first team players in the summer, with all of their contracts coming to an end.

The defensive trio of Daniel Ayala, Ryan Shotton and George Friend, as well as midfield duo Adam Clayton and Jonny Howson, striker Rudy Gestede and winger Marvin Johnson could all leave Middlesbrough for free at the end of the season.

Johnson is Boro’s only winger at the club at present, but he had been utilised as a left wing back in recent weeks before his red card against Hull City in their 2-2 draw on 24th November.

He has also been one of the club’s better performers under Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate this season, but the wide player isn’t too focused on his expiring contract situation.

“There’s no focus on that,” said Johnson in an exclusive interview with The Hartlepool Mail this week. “I’m here and now and I’m playing games.

“I don’t want to put my mind elsewhere, I’m here right now and am giving my all for the team.”

Johnson is now back in contention for Middlesbrough’s visit to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening after serving his three match suspension. But youngster Hayden Coulson has done well in that left wing back role, and he is likely to keep his place tonight at The City Ground.
