West Bromwich Albion defender Semi Ajayi has described star man Matheus Pereira as a ‘joke’ and ‘the best player in the league’ as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

Albion hammered Swansea City 5-1 at the Hawthorns on Sunday in a match which Pereira dazzled with a simply sensational performance. The Brazilian notched a goal and provided four assists in a man of the match showing.

Ajayi has been a consistent performer in the centre of defence having struck up a flourishing partnership with Kyle Bartley and is delighted for Pereira.

“He’s a joke. It’s a joy to play with him, but I can imagine it’s even more of a joy to watch him,” Ajayi said. “Some of his passing against Swansea was unreal and long may it continue.”

“Yeah, definitely best in the league. From the performances he has put in it’s hard to argue otherwise. We’re all really pleased for him.”

The towering centre-half also praised the rest of the team for their performances so far and expressed his delight at being part of a winning team.

“It’s a joy to be part of this team. Everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet and we have got a lot of talented players in the team.”
