Former Leeds United defender ‘in awe’ of star midfielder

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has said he is ‘in awe’ of star midfielder Mateusz Klich who once again performed impressively in their 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

In an interview with Football Insider, Mills claims that Klich is ‘underrated’ and deserves more credit for his consistent performances.

Klich has scored four goals and provided one assist in 21 games so far this season for Marco Bielsa’s side. Mills believes his statistics would even more impressive if the chances he created were converted by his teammates.

“You can create as many chances as you want, but players ultimately have to be there to put it in the back of the net,” he said.

“I think as long as you keep creating, it’s not a problem, up until the last few games, Bamford had a bit of a drought. Leeds haven’t been as clinical as they should have been, hence why his numbers probably aren’t as high as they should be.”

“But Mateusz Klich is one of those players I feel is underrated at times, he very rarely has a bad game. He works very hard, certainly he has a turn of pace which surprises a few from time to time.”

The 29-year-old has recently signed a new contract with the Whites keeping him at Elland Road until 2024 which will delight the club and its supporters.

He has become an integral part of the Leeds set-up in recent years and he could have a real impact on the team this campaign as they look to achieve promotion back to the Premier League.
