5 games that could see an upset in the League Cup tonight

Chesterfield v Huddersfield

chesterfieldHere we have another two sides where morale is at two different ends of the spectrum going into Tuesday’s game. Huddersfield go into this one without a manager after they parted company with Mark Robins on Sunday. The Terriers were dismantled by Bournemouth in their own backyard in their opening game and that was enough to see the ex-Coventry and Barnsley boss relieved of his duties. Whilst the search for a new manager goes on it is in the hands of assistant manager Steve Thompson and first team coach Steve Eyre to steady the ship.

Chesterfield go into this one in high spirits after their opening day win against last season’s play-off finalists Leyton Orient. An early goal from debutant Rommy Boco and a sublime lob from Eoin Doyle saw Chesterfield make the perfect start to their League 1 campaign. One player who will be eager to make a difference in this one is Gary Roberts; the exciting winger was not offered another contract by Huddersfield in 2012 which saw him leave the club for Swindon. 11 goals in League 2 last season proves he has still got it, and will be looking to get one over his former side here.

Huddersfield certainly have a team capable of performing, with the likes of Nahki Wells up front and Oliver Norwood in the middle of the park, but in their current situation this will not be an easy tie. The crowd will be more than up for this one as it’s their first home game of the season and if Doyle and Roberts are on form Chesterfield have more than a chance of progressing to the next round here.
