Charlton Athletic want permanent deal for West Ham United midfielder

Charlton Athletic want to sign West Ham United loanee Josh Cullen on a permanent deal.

The Hammers’ midfielder has impressed on loan at the Valley over the past season-and-a-half and they want to sign him in the upcoming January transfer window, according to a report by London News Online.

Cullen, who is 23 years-old, first joined Charlton on loan in August 2018 and helped the London side gain promotion from League One in his first season at the club.

Lee Bowyer’s side then swooped to sign him this past summer and he has been a key player for them since in the Championship.

He is highly-rated by West Ham but is down the pecking order in their midfield department so could be sold for the right price.

Cullen, who is a Republic of Ireland international with two caps under his belt so far in his career, joined the Hammers at the age of eight and rose up through the youth ranks there.

He made his first team debut for the Iron in a Europa League clash against Lusitanos in May 2015 and has since played eight more times for the Premier League side.

Cullen was loaned out to Bradford City in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons and made 63 appearances for the Yorkshire side before spending time on loan at Bolton Wanderers shortly after.

He has since found a home at Charlton and could be set for a permanent switch to the Valley this winter.
