Birmingham City in danger of losing highly rated central defender

Birmingham City are facing the possibility of losing on-loan central defender Jake Clarke-Salter, as parent club Chelsea are reportedly unhappy with his lack of game time at St Andrews’.

Clarke-Salter’s man of the match performance last Saturday against Millwall came in just his sixth start for the club, and a report from The Telegraph suggests that last season’s Europa League winners are unhappy with the amount of minutes that the 22-year-old has picked up.

It is fair to say he has not been a first choice player over the last few months, but as reported by the Telegraph, an injury to Birmingham’s Marc Roberts has given Clark-Salter the chance to stake a claim for a first team place.

If he is able to cement his place in the Starting XI on a more regular basis, then it is believed Chelsea will allow the young defender to stay at the Midlands club until the end of the season.

Jake Clark-Salter is highly thought of at Chelsea, with many people tipping him to break into the first team in the coming years.

He came through the famous youth set-up at Stamford Bridge, but like so many others he has struggled to make the cut.

Instead, he has been forced to watch on as the likes of Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori, who Clarke-Salter played with in the youth teams, make their way into the first team picture at Stamford Bridge.

If Clarke-Salter’s career at the Bridge is to progress, game time is crucial for the young defender right now.
