Huddersfield Town and Hull City battling it out for Bristol City man

Huddersfield Town and Hull City are interested in a loan deal for Bristol City’s Sammie Szmodics.

The Championship duo have both enquired about his availability in the upcoming January transfer window, according to a report by Bristol Live.

Szmodics, who is 24 years-old, only joined the Robins over the summer from Colchester United but has struggled to break into their team. He has made just three appearances for Lee Johnson’s side in all competitions.

The Colchester-born attacking midfielder started his career with the U’s after rising up through their youth ranks. He went on to make 162 appearances for them, scoring 38 goals altogether, 15 of which came in an impressive last season.

Huddersfield are eager to bolster their squad this winter as Danny Cowley looks to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad. The Terriers’ boss knows all about Szmodics having managed against him for Lincoln City in the fourth tier last term.

Hull have also been credited with an interest in the 5ft 6inc midfielder. The Tigers were linked with a move for him in the summer before he opted for Bristol City.

Grant McCann’s side will be in the hunt for some attacking options next month to close the gap between them and the Play-Offs.

Szmodics penned a three-year contract at Ashton Gate in late June but may be set for a loan move away to prove his worth in the Championship.
