Premier League club emerge as favourites to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic

Aston Villa are reportedly leading the chase to sign sought-after Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Midlands outfit are favourites with the bookies to land the in-form Serbian striker, according to Birmingham Live, with many clubs expected to fight for his signature during the January transfer window.

The news comes a few weeks after former Villa striker Darren Bent urged his old club to sign Mitrovic up in January.

He told Football Insider: “I think he’s too good in the Championship and I think Villa need a centre-forward who can potentially score goals, obviously Wesley has done okay but he hasn’t really set the world alight as of yet.

”These teams should look at him because he’s too good for the Championship. He’s a big, strong powerful target man who scores goals when given the service.”

Mitrovic has been in sparkling form for Scott Parker’s side this season, scoring 15 goals in 18 appearances for the Cottagers.

He also has a healthy return for Serbia having scored eight goals in his last five turnouts for his country.

Mitrovic, who initially arrived in England by signing for Newcastle United, has recently signed a new deal to keep him at Craven Cottage until 2024 but he could be lured away from the capital should an offer come in for him in January with a host of top flight teams linked with a move for the 25-year-old.
