Wolverhampton Wanderers could swoop for Championship manager if current boss departs

Wolverhampton Wanderers could swoop for Championship boss Sabri Lamouchi if Nuno Espirito Santo departs for fellow Premier League side Arsenal.

According to The Sun, the Midlands side could look at Lamouchi if fans’ favourite Nuno leaves to join the Gunners following speculation he is being lined up as a replacement for Unai Emery.

Lamouchi was somewhat of a surprise appointment and relatively unknown when he replaced previous boss Martin O’Neill at the City Ground but he has been a revelation so far this campaign leading the Reds to fourth in the Championship table.

His defensive organisation has really impressed and this has caught the eye of the Europa League club and although they are desperate to retain Nuno, they are eyeing up potential replacements should they lose the Portuguese.

At this stage it appears unlikely that Nuno will leave to join Arsenal with the Premier League giants in a state of disarray on the field following poor results and with Wolves enjoying another successful campaign which sees them in sixth place in the top flight and having qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

It would also be difficult to entice Lamouchi to Wolves as although they are above his current side in the football pyramid, replacing Nuno would be a tough act to follow and he may not wish to leave Forest who are well placed for a promotion challenge and may want to see the job through.

Although this scenario may seem unlikely at present, there is no doubting that anything can happen in football.
