A flying start for Fleetwood in League 1
Fleetwood Town took to the field for their first ever League 1 game, their highest league fixture in the clubs history, against Crewe Alexandra at Highbury Stadium on Saturday watched by over 3,700 supporters.
The first half was an even affair with perhaps Fleetwood just shading it which was reflected in the score of 0-0 at HT but the 2nd half was a different matter. Fleetwood dominated most of the half, despite Crewe hitting the woodwork twice, and gaining two penalties. Fleetwood themselves had 17 attempts on goal and were coasting for much of the 2nd half.
|Chris Maxwell Solid performance from Chris although there wasn’t a great deal for him to do With only 4 shots on goal from Crewe with one saved Penalty from an Awful strike from Crewe`s Tootle.||7.0|
|Conor McLaughlin Played at Left wing back as opposed to his usual position of right wing back and did well showing some decent skill on the ball with good distribution.||7.0|
|Liam Hogan Had a shocker in his own box, giving away both penalties (2nd was a little harsh) and failed to show the same standards set by his team mates which simply isn’t good enough at this level.||3.0|
|Steve Jordan Currently filling in whilst Club Captain is out with a calf strain (2 weeks) and his experience shows, giving very little away, apart from the odd mis-placed pass.||6.5|
|Nathan Pond Record breaking Pondy can do no wrong at Fleetwood, on or off the pitch and he put in another steeling effort with nothing getting past him. Great in the air and dominant in the box.||7.5|
|Steven Schumacher Has an army of followers and rightly so, however this wasn’t one of his better showings and my feeling is that he isn’t quite as sharp physically as some of the others so far.||5.5|
|Josh Morris He is fast becoming a real favourite at Highbury. On loan from Blackburn again this season, Josh showed great appetite and work rate and is getting better with each 90 minutes played.||7.5|
|Gareth Evans This was probably the best I have seen from Gareth so far. He looks fitter this year, faster, hungrier and was my MOTM. Super performance, full of pace and effort.||8.5|
|Anthony Sarcevic Rapidly turning into a real class act with intelligent flicks and through balls, as well as not being shy to try his arm when in range. FTFC will do well to hang onto this rising star.||8.5|
|Steven Dobbie His class was obvious to all at this level. Although only on for the first half, he fitted in well and was a real handful for the Crewe defence. Lets hope his injury doesn’t keep him out too long.||7.5|
|David Ball Probably the hardest working player on the field, week in week out at the club and today was no exception. Excellent attitude and a well deserved opener for David.||8.0|
|Jamie Proctor On in the 2nd half for Dobbie, Jamie started a little nervously but that soon past after his superb strike and his first goal for Fleetwood. Jamie has big pockets, big enough to fit both Crewe’s Tootle and Guthrie in. Really good start to his Fleetwood career.||7.5|
|Matty Blair He wasn’t on for long, but even in that short time, he showed his pace twice, leaving the Crewe defence for dead.||6.5|
