West Brom manager proud of his players following return to the summit

West Bromwich Albion manager Slaven Bilic has said that he was very proud of his players after they comfortably beat Bristol City 4-1 last night (November 27) to return to the top of the Sky Bet Championship table.

The Baggies ran out comfortable winners in the end, despite being given a scare by Famara Diedhiou, who made the score 2-1 in the 80th minute.

Late goals from Hal Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin secured the three points that saw West Brom leapfrog Leeds at the top of the table.

Speaking to BBC West Midlands (via BBC Sport), Slaven Bilic was extremely proud of the performance his players put in.

“We played really good. To win 4-1 against a side like Bristol City, it had to be a good performance. They are a very solid team. But we made them not solid enough,” he said.

“I was very proud of the way we managed the game. We showed resilience and quality without the ball, but to attack with the numbers we do give more players the chance to score goals. The only negative is that we should have scored more goals. But playing like this will give us the chance to win many more games.

“We showed physicality, shape, one against ones, pace, skill, crosses, second balls – everything. We slaughtered them on second balls and that’s what pleased me.”

West Brom are currently two points ahead of second place Leeds United, but have opened up a seven point gap to third place following Preston North End’s heavy defeat at Hull City.
