Hull boss calls for fans’ return after record-low turnout at KCOM Stadium

Hull City manager Grant McCann said he hopes supporters can be encouraged to come back to the KCOM Stadium after less than 10,000 supporters came to watch his side thrash Preston 4-0.

Only 9,826 people watched the rout – the lowest league attendance for a Hull City game in the past 17 years – and McCann wants a promotion charge to instil belief in supporters and entice them back to the KCOM.

He told Hull Live: “Look, what this club has been doing, what we’ve all been doing, is trying to entice the fans back a little bit,” he said.

“Sometimes when the Champions League is on, it’s not the best weather, it’s going to happen.

“All we can do is keep putting performances on the pitch and hopefully more fans can come back and support us.”

Last season, Hull’s lowest league attendance at the KCOM came when Wigan visited the Tigers in September 2018. However, there were still 243 more supporters present compared to last night’s total in the Preston win.

Goals from Jarrod Bowen (2), Josh Magennis and Kamil Grosicki secured the three points for Hull and McCann was full of praise for the former who is reportedly wanted by a host of Premier League clubs.

He said: “Jarrod’s mentality is unbelievable. Every day he is the best trainer. He lost the ball at 4-0 up in the 85th minute tonight and sprinted back to win it back for the team. The goals he gets are his reward for all of that.

“We’re over the moon with how he is playing at the minute – he’s the best at what he does in this league.”
