Former Leeds United striker tips central defender to become ‘world class star’

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has tipped central defender Ben White to become a ‘world class star’ in both the Champions League and on the International stage according to Football Insider.

White has been at Elland Road since the summer following his loan switch from Brighton & Hove Albion and has flourished under boss Marco Bielsa.

Leeds were once again victorious on Tuesday evening against Reading when they scored in the 87th minute through Jack Harrison’s header in which White contributed to them once again keeping another clean sheet.

The Whites are now top of the Championship table following four consecutive wins and Whelan was full of praise for the on-loan Brighton defender’s performance.

“Ben White is an outstanding defender,” he said. “I realised within a few games that Pontus Jansson wouldn’t be missed, and it’s long been clear he’s much better than Pontus.”

“You’re looking at not just a top Premier League player of the future but someone good enough to play for England and in the Champions League. He’s that good.”

“Brighton are going to have to sort out what to do with him as they have some top centre-backs. Will they cash in next summer?”

“He wouldn’t be cheap. I’ve seen him linked with Liverpool and Man United, and I’m not surprised. He’s going to be way more than £20million now. £20m wouldn’t buy his left leg.”

White has previously enjoyed spells at Newport County in League Two and Peterborough United in League One but this season has been his first taste of Championship football but he has undoubtedly been one of the player’s of the season so far.
