Leeds United defender’s form comes as ‘no surprise’ to Brighton striker

Leeds United defender Ben White has been in imperious form so far this campaign and has taken to Championship life seamlessly but this has come as ‘no surprise’ to his Brighton teammate Glenn Murray.

As reported by Leeds Live, Murray believes that White will continue to be a success at Elland Road and prove to be a vital asset for Marco Bielsa’s side.

The 22-year-old centre back is seen as a like for like replacement for departing Swedish defender Pontus Jansson who made the switch to Brentford in the summer and White has gone on to forge a great partnership with club captain Liam Cooper.

White has had a wonderful start to the season and filled the boots of Jansson who was a commanding presence in the back-line and Murray has been unsurprised by the form he has shown.

Murray said when asked about White’s form: “It’s absolutely no surprise to me. Not long ago, I trained at Brighton and he would often step in front of me and I’m like ‘who is this kid?’”

“He’s gone out, and he’s been fantastic at Leeds. He’s stepped into some big boots with Pontus Jansson leaving at the end of the season, and to step in there and lead by example at such a tender age.”

“He’s not played many league games, and he’s agile, very, very composed on the ball, and I think that’s why Bielsa likes him, but we think a lot of him at Brighton.”

Leeds enjoyed another victory in Tuesday evening’s game against Reading as they won 1-0 thanks to a late winner from Jack Harrison and now top the table with previous league leaders West Bromwich Albion taking on Bristol City this evening at the Hawthorns as they look to reclaim top spot.
