Shrewsbury Town boss accuses player of cheating after defeat

Shrewsbury Town manager Sam Ricketts has accused Bristol Rovers’ Liam Sercombe of cheating after his side lost 4-3 at home in a thriller at the New Meadow.

The Gas looked on course for three points but let a two-goal lead slip as the resurgent Shrews came from behind to level the game at 3-3 in the 67th minute.

However, in a late twist, Rovers secured all three points thanks to Abu Ogogo’s late winner.

In his post-match interview with BBC Radio Shropshire, a frustrated Ricketts admitted that he was disappointed after his side came away with nothing from a game described by Bristol Live as a “feisty, bad-tempered game”.

But Ricketts went on to add that he felt aggrieved by Bristol Rovers and Liam Sercombe in  particular with the Welshman accuses the opposition team and player of cheating.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I thought we started a little bit sluggish and gave ourselves a mountain to climb but then we climbed it.

”You just want to consolidate and certainly don’t lose the game from that situation.

”We were still pressing, it wasn’t like they were peppering our goal, it was just they started cheating a little bit, one player, the number seven for them.

It just tipped their way in the end, a thrilling game for the neutral which unfortunately did not go our way.”
