“Was just about getting the points today”- Blackburn Rovers boss reacts to Barnsley win

Gerhard Struber lost his first game in charge of Barnsley yesterday against Blackburn Rovers 3-2.

The Tykes twice pegged back the hosts, who scored through Bradley Dack and Stewart Downing, via Conor Chaplin and Cauley Woodrow.

However, defensive frailties cost the Yorkshire side again when Dack gave Rovers all three points on 86 minutes.

Tony Mowbray was pleased to get the win and told their official club website after the game: “It was all about just getting the points today. I know the statistics about Barnsley, but they are a good footballing side with young players who express themselves.”

“I watched them be 2-0 up at West Brom recently and they are a good side. They have a coach who had his first game today and for us it was about getting the points, despite making it difficult at times.”

“You need your big players to come to the party today, Dack did that and so did Stewy Downing. We needed the points today and managed to get them. We found a way to win.”

He was also full of praise for his players: “Stewy is technically our best footballer. When we needed him he came off the bench and made a difference in the game, which is what you ask of your substitutes when they go on.”

“Danny Graham came on as well and held the ball up well. He’s a fans favourite and they want him to play every minute of every game, but he’s someone who is pushing on in years now despite being brilliant for us, but I need to manage him, in my opinion.”
