Derby midfielder reveals injury frustrations

Derby County’s George Evans has opened up about his injury struggles and his desire to return to the first team.

The 24-year-old was one of Frank Lampard’s first signings at the beginning of his one season tenure at the club but ended up making just six starts during the last campaign which saw the Rams lose in the Championship play-off final to Aston Villa.

Evans was denied first team opportunities with Lampard opting for the more experienced Bradley Johnson in midfield.

A quad injury also curtailed his progress but under Phillip Cocu he began to rediscover his form before another injury hampered his ambitions of regular first team football once again.

In an interview with Rams TV, Evans said: “Similar to last year, I felt like I just started to get going and then I picked up another injury. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been very frustrated.

“It’s been very stop-start and it’s not good. Hopefully it’s all behind me now and I can kick on.”

Evans hasn’t started a Championship game this season since August but has been involved in the club’s last two matches against Middlesbrough and rivals Nottingham Forest.

Evans will once again be hoping that he features in Cocu’s side as the Rams attempt to bounce back from their derby day defeat to Forest with a win against high flying Preston.
