Leeds United boss provides mixed injury news on key players

Leeds United boss Marco Bielsa has provided an injury update regarding on-loan striker Eddie Nketiah as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Bielsa has confirmed that the Arsenal man will resume training next week as he looks to return to action as soon as possible although this weekend’s game against Luton Town will come too soon for him.

The forward has been sidelined in recent weeks due to an abdominal issue which he picked up before the game against Queens Park Rangers earlier this month.

Bielsa said when asked about Nketiah in his pre-match press conference: “He is training. It’s different when you train to when you train with the group and after it is necessary to consider the time he was without training. For instance, Dallas played on Saturday, five days ago and Cooper 12 days ago.”

“So there are different situations between Dallas and Cooper. After Eddie starts to train with the group, he will be ready to compete. One thing is being healthy and another being ready to compete. It is necessary to consider the time he was without training.”

The Argentine boss said he will wait to make a decision on club captain Liam Cooper and Jamie Shackleton as they look to return from hamstring and quad injuries respectively.

Alioski has been passed fit for the Luton clash whilst Forshaw remains sidelined with a hip injury. Bielsa continued: “We don’t know if Cooper is going to play yet. Dallas and Cooper are healthy but we will have to see.”

With Leeds not being as clinical in front of goal as last season, Bielsa will be hoping that Nketiah will be able to return sooner rather than later to ease the goalscoring burden on first-choice striker Patrick Bamford.
