Preston North End boss issues hands off warning ahead of January transfer window

Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Post, Preston North End manager Alex Neil has said that the club will not be selling any of their star players this January, as links continue to emerge with the window coming closer and closer.

Amid their strong first half of the Championship season, a number of Preston North End’s star players have been linked with moves away, with a number of Premier League clubs linked with some of the Lilywhites’ best players.

Defender Ben Davis has been the subject of ongoing transfer links, with  Ben Pearson also linked with a  move away. Now, however, manager Alex Neil has moved to ease any worries, saying that the club will not be selling anyone in January.

Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Post, he said:

“We won’t be selling anybody in January. Speaking frankly, why should we let anybody go in January? If we did I think it would be a catastrophic mistake because of what we have done. I don’t think it is even something we should consider doing.

“These lads are happy to be here, want to be here, we think we are on the cusp of doing something quite special. This is certainly the closest we have been for a number of years.”

Neil then went on to discuss the club’s recruitment plans for the January transfer window, confirming that the club are putting plans in place ahead of the opening of the window on January 1st. He added:

“We have started to turn our attention to January. We are five or six weeks away and it is an ongoing process. More time will be invested in it over the next few weeks. We will see what the window brings.

“If you ask me, you need to try and strengthen the squad in every window. We have to make sure that come the end of January we are in a stronger position than going into the start of January.”
