Nottingham Forest defender commits future to the club

Highly rated Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall says his future is at the City Ground after transfer speculation linking him with a move elsewhere.

The 22-year-old progressed from the club’s Academy to the first team and is now a regular starter with the Reds flying high in the Sky Bet Championship.

A loan spell at SPL side Rangers helped improve Worrall’s game and he has now established himself as a first-choice centre back at the East Midlands outfit.

His performances in Scotland attracted the attention of other clubs in the summer and there was speculation he may make the move to another team with Hull City and Wigan Athletic reportedly interested in snapping him up.

However, in an interview with the Nottingham Post, Worrall has reaffirmed his desire to stay at the club he supported as a boy in a bid to try and end their 20-year exodus from the Premier League.

He said: “Of course there’s always speculation. You see it all the time on Twitter. But at the end of the day I’m playing for Forest – the team I love. I love wearing the red shirt.

“It’s something that I’m focused on for the next game.

“You never know what happens in football. Lots of things can happen, but I’m just focused on Bristol City.”

Worrall also spoke about the highly anticipated redevelopment of the Peter Taylor Stand and how the club wants to maintain its promotion push and give the fans something to celebrate both on and off the pitch.

He said: “You don’t want to curse anything, but I’ve never felt like this.

“I know I’ve only been playing at the club professionally for three or four years, but let’s not forget how many managers I’ve seen come through the door and how many players!

“It’s been a whirlwind of an upbringing to life in football for me. I’ve loved every single minute of it.”
