Ex-Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Northampton Town striker signs for non-league side

Dean Bowditch has signed for Stowmarket Town on a free transfer.

The experienced forward has joined the Eastern Counties League Premier Division side on a deal until the end of the season, as announced by their official twitter account.

Bowditch, who is 33 years-old, has been in the hunt for a new club since being released by Northampton Town at the end of last season.

He has told Stowmarket Town’s club website: “It was Jack Ainsley, who I played with in the past, he mentioned Stowmarket a while ago. He was really selling the club to me and I’ve recently had a son, and I’ve spent the last three or four months with him, which I’ve absolutely loved.”

“But a part of me has also been itching to get back playing. It’s good to be at a club that are just going one way.”

Bowditch is a vastly experienced player who has racked up over 450 appearances and has played at Championship level.

He started his career at Ipswich Town and played 82 times for the Tractor Boys, as well as having loan spells away at Burnley, Wycombe Wanderers, Brighton and Hove Albion, Northampton Town and Brentford.

Bowditch joined Yeovil Town on a permanent deal in 2009 and spent two years at Huish Park before switching to MK Dons. The Herefordshire-born forward spent six seasons with the Dons.

He has since gone on to re-sign for Northampton and then spent the second-half of last term on loan at Stevenage before his release.
