Nottingham Forest legend recommends player sale to Premier League side

Nottingham Forest legend Kenny Burns has said that if Everton are willing to pay £12 million for Forest’s versatile full-back Matty Cash, it will be very difficult for the Sky Bet Championship club to turn down.

The Merseyside club are reportedly interested, having sent scouts to watch Cash on several occasions, and see him as a long-term replacement for Irish defender Seamus Coleman, who is nearing the end of his playing career.

Cash has thoroughly impressed for the Reds so far this season, and was even name in our “Sky Bet Championship defenders of the season so far.”

His performances have alerted a number of Premier League clubs, but Everton are believed to be favourites to sign the 22-year-old.

Writing in his weekly article in the Nottingham Post, Kenny Burns, who won back to back European Cups as a player at the City ground, admitted that selling Cash may be the most sensible thing to do.

He wrote: “While it might just be speculation, when you’re talking about the money that’s been reported, it would be really tough to turn that down.”

The fact of the matter at clubs like Forest that don’t benefit from the Premier League riches is that to remain competitive and stay within Financial Fair Play rules, you have to sell players.

Burns went on to say that he was hopeful that should Cash depart for Everton this January, there is a chance that the Premier League side may loan him back to Nottingham Forest for the remainder of the season.
