Takeover talk intensifies at Leeds United

The owners of French side PSG are reportedly one step closer to taking over Leeds United.

Following months of speculation and negotiations, ESPN is now reporting that Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), the company which owns PSG, have made further steps to purchasing the Whites.

Discussions between the Leeds United hierarchy and representatives of QSI have been ongoing for a while but recent “positive talks” could spell an end to the current stalemate in negotiations.

Two other buyers also reportedly want to takeover Leeds but QSI has the advantage thanks to Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani‘s close relationship with the firm.

The Italian is the majority owner of the Sky Bet Championship side and has established a strong connection with Nasser al-Khelaifi, who is the president of QSI and PSG.

ESPN says more talks are planned in the days to come and while a full agreement to takeover is not expected soon, recent discussions have moved negotiations in a more positive direction.

According to reports, QSI have wanted to tap into English football for a while by purchasing a club with Queens Park Rangers initially thought to be the company’s first choice of investment.

However, the firm has since decided that their money would be better spent on the West Yorkshire outfit and since 2018, there has been a lot of collaboration between Qatar and Leeds with the club sending its youth teams to Aspire football academy in the capital Doha.
