DC United midfielder Luciano Acosta is not a transfer target for Derby County.
The Argentinian has been linked with the Rams but the Championship side have cooled their interest in him, according to a report by Derbyshire Live.
Acosta, who is 25 years-old, is in the hunt for a new club with his contract at DC United expiring at the end of their season last month.
He was teammates with Wayne Rooney, who has signed for Derby, at Audi Field and formed a lethal partnership with him in the Major League Soccer. However, they will not be reuniting in the English second tier.
Acosta was born in Buenos Aires and started his career with his local side Club Comunicaciones before he was snapped up by Boca Juniors as a youngster in 2007.
He made his debut for the Argentinian giants against Newell’s Old Boys in November 2014 and went on to make a further 27 appearances for the Premira Division side.
Acosta had a loan spell at Estudiantes de La Plata before he joined DC United, initially on a loan deal which was made permanent a year later.
He became a key player for the Black and Red and played 137 times altogether for them, scoring 23 goals.
Derby will have to look elsewhere for potential January transfer window signings. Acosta is being heavily linked with a return to where it all started for him at Boca Juniors now.
