Charlton Athletic star “touch and go” for Cardiff City clash

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has told the South London Press that star striker Lyle Taylor is “touch and go” for this weekend’s clash with Cardiff City, as he nears his return from a knee injury.

Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor enjoyed a thoroughly successful start to the season, scoring five goals in six Championship matches and helping the Addicks exceed expectations in the process. However, having picked up a knee injury while on international duty with Montserrat, Taylor has been out of action for almost two months.

In his absence, Macauley Bonne has stepped into the starting eleven and enjoyed a successful run of form – scoring five goals in 10 matches – and now, Taylor could be nearing his return to action. Addicks boss Lee Bowyer has said that the striker will likely face a late fitness test before this weekend’s game, adding that it is “touch and go” as to whether or not he will be involved,

Speaking to the South London Press, Bowyer said:

“He’s got a bit of tightness somewhere and it’s just going to be a case of trying to manage him this week and seeing how he goes. Whether he makes it or not is touch and go. I’m going to try everything in my power to try and get him ready.”

This weekend, Charlton face Cardiff City, who will be lead by new manager Neil Harris for the first time since the departure of Neil Warnock. A win could see the Addicks – who are without a league win in four – rise up to 8th in the table, while a victory for Cardiff could see them rise to 9th.
