Aston Villa tracking Carlisle United defender ahead of potential January move

Aston Villa are tracking Carlisle United defender Jarrad Branthwaite ahead of a potential January move for the youngster according to Football Insider.

The teenager has impressed so far this season in League Two for the North West club and has attracted attention from a host of top flight clubs having broken into the first team at Carlisle.

It has been reported that scouts from different clubs have been to watch Branthwaite this season and have been impressed by his performances.

Villa see Branthwaite as a potential star and one to watch for the future and they are expected to continue to monitor him as they weigh up a move for him this winter.

The centre back has made nine appearances for Carlisle so far this campaign and his height, standing at 6ft 4” despite only being 17-years-old also makes him an attractive prospect for bigger clubs higher up the football pyramid.

He signed a two-year contract with an option for a further year at the end of February 2019 which ties him to the fourth-tier club until at least the summer of 2021.

It would surely take a huge offer from one of the top flight elite clubs for Carlisle to even consider selling one of their prized assets in January. With the Cumbrian side currently sitting in 20th place in League Two, it makes Branthwaite’s performances all the more impressive in a struggling side.

The youngster progressed through the ranks at Brunton Park and has since gone on to establish himself in the first team.
