Stoke City hopeful of signing former Everton youngster

Stoke City manager Michael O’Neil is a massive fan of Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove, and would love to sign him at his new club in order to move the Potters back up the Sky Bet Championship table, according to HITC.

It is fair to say that Stoke City are currently massively underachieving in the second tier. That is why Nathan Jones lost his job, and that is why Michael O’Neil was poached from Northern Ireland.

The Stoke board want to climb their table, and there is no doubt that the current squad does have the potential to do that.

One thing they are missing though is an out-and-out goalscorer, and O’Neil has set his sights on Aberdeen’s inform striker Sam Cosgrove.

The 22-year-old has been firing on all cylinders so far this season, finding the back of the net 16 times already to add to his impressive tally of 21 last campaign.

Cosgrove’s 16 goals so far this season is just one fewer than Stoke have managed as a squad in the Sky Bet Championship, with their four recognised strikers netting just seven between them.

He has been described as unplayable by Aberdeen bos Derek McInness, and the Scottish club certainly do not want to lose their prize asset, so it may take a bit of money to tempt him to come south of the border.

Cosgrove began his career at Everton, playing under legendary striker Duncan Ferguson, before moving to another North West side Wigan Athletic.

He failed to make the grade at the Latics, instead spending time out on loan at the likes of Chorley and Carlisle, before making the move to Scotland.
