Leeds United and Middlesbrough target the envy of Barcelona.

La Liga giants Barcelona are said to be kicking themselves over missing out on a player who is now the subject of intense scrutiny from Leeds United and Middlesbrough ahead of the January transfer window. but who could it be?

Championship clubs have transfer targets that are widespread and eclectic, with scouts scouring the length and breadth of the globe in search of the next big name or any player who could improve their sides.

So called ‘bigger’ clubs such as Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield Wednesday and the like have been known to rub shoulders with the very biggest names in world football in the grapple for signatures, so it is no surprise to hear that Leeds and Boro have been the subject of the same scrutiny as clubs such as Barcelona in recent times in their searches for new and exciting players.

The player in question is Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli, a player that both Championship clubs have been heavily linked with for a loan move this season, but he is also the reason that The Catalans have ended up bloodying their own shins.

In the summer, the Brazilian front-man was linked with Barca, as well as Leeds, Boro and Watford before finally securing a move to Premier League Arsenal from Ituano, even having a trial at the Camp Nou before Barcelona deciding against taking the 18-year-old on, allowing Arsenal to swoop in and snap him up.

But now, having watched the player score seven goals in nine arsenal appearances, Barcelona are said to be “kicking themselves” over their decision not to sign him according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

So, should either team manage to capture the striker, it would be at Barcelona’s expense as the Catalan giants continue to regret their decision.
