Return dates set for four injured Middlesbrough first team players

Middlesbrough have been unlucky with injuries so far this season, and this has prevented Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate picking a full strength team week in week out.

The Hartlepool Mail have given an update on four out of action Middlesbrough players, with return dates set for each of them.

Darren Randolph missed three games through injury, with youngster Aynsley Pears deputising in his place. The Republic of Ireland shot stopper returned to the fold last week against QPR at Loftus Road, but admittedly he wasn’t back to full fitness.

He should be fit to play against Hull City next Saturday for Middlesbrough.

Ryan Shotton was used as a centre-back in Woodgate’s preferred new system of five at the back, but his injury meant the club’s best midfielder this season Paddy McNair had to drop back into defence.

Thankfully for Boro fans, George Friend returned to action against QPR to move into centre back in Shotton’s place, and McNair could be used further up field in his preferred position. But Friend will have competition when Shotton returns in early December.

Rudy Gestede has been in and out of the team since he signed, and has never really nailed down a first team place. He has been given opportunities when fit, but he has been on the treatment table more often than not.

He suffered a hamstring injury recently and will be back in contention for Middlesbrough before the end of the month according to the report.

Finally, Marcus Browne, who started up front alongside Britt Assombalonga away at Derby was thrown into the fold for an Under-23s game against Manchester United, but ultimately came off injured early into the game.

The former-West Ham man also fell victim to a hamstring injury and is expected to return for next weeks game against Hull at The Riverside.
