Ex-Leeds United striker warns his former club over replacement for on-loan star

Ex-Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has warned his former club that they must replace on-loan star Jack Clarke amidst discussions regarding his possible recall by Tottenham Hotspur in January.

According to Football Insider, Whelan has insisted they must replace the youngster as he believes Spurs will likely take advantage of the mid-season recall clause in Clarke’s loan deal.

Leeds sold Clarke to Tottenham in the summer for £9million and was immediately loaned back to the Championship side but has failed to make a single appearance in the league so far this campaign.

Whelan thinks that although Leeds haven’t utilised Clarke in the first half of the season, they must replace him as their squad may become threadbare should injuries or suspensions play a part.

“It’s inevitable Jack will go back to Tottenham, and probably on loan to another club,” Whelan said. “He wants to be playing regularly, and I’m sure that’s what Tottenham want as well.”

“The problem Leeds have is we need options on the bench and he will be needed in the second half of the season when there will be more injuries and suspensions. We have a thin squad. We can’t afford to lose any players in January.”

“The whole squad is going to be needed in the new year if we are going to get out of this league. If we haven’t got Jack after January we need to find someone else. He must be replaced.”

Clarke has only made two appearances in total for the Whites this season and both have come in the Carabao Cup. However, in the league he has been on the bench without being able to force his way into the starting XI.
