Frank Lampard wants Derby man to join him at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wants Derby’s Shay Given to rejoin his coaching team so he can improve the form of keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The retired Irish shot stopper worked with Lampard last season at the East Midlands side and it is thought that the Chelsea legend wanted Given to move to London to be a part of his coaching team at Stamford Bridge.

However, the move was reportedly resisted by the Chelsea board who instead chose to promote Henrique Hilario to the role.

Given stayed at Derby to work under new manager Philippe Cocu but according to the Daily Mail, Lampard has not given up hope of luring the 43-year-old to the Blues.

Kepa has kept three clean sheets in 12 Premier League matches this season and although he has ousted David De Gea as Spain’s number one goalkeeper, there are concerns over his club form and his ability to keep out set pieces.

Derby have endured a somewhat turbulent start to the season after an off-the-pitch incident involving Richard Keogh, Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett.

The latter of the trio both crashed their cars resulting in an injury to Keogh who has since been sacked by Derby for gross misconduct.

Bennett and Lawrence were allowed to keep their jobs but were ordered to do community service after pleading guilty to drink-driving.

The Rams are currently 16th in the league after struggling for form in the first 16 games of the season. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of bitter rivals Nottingham Forest with Lewis Grabban netting the winner at the City Ground.
